HEALTH & SAFETY SERVICES

HEALTH & SAFETY

We will inspect the premises and assess the risks to both the public and employees. Surveys include a review of a client’s Health and Safety programme with the report intended to highlight any deficiencies in compliance with current Health and Safety Legislation and to alert management to hazards created by the company’s activities. Systems of work, method statements, the use of machinery and plant, protective devices and clothing, etc. are all critically examined, whilst the report also provides detailed advice on how to minimise risks and to ensure compliance with Legislation. Advice on recognising potential problems such as noise, RSI and suchlike will also be given where appropriate and we can provide risk assessments where in-house expertise is limited.

A Health and Safety Audit can help clients evaluate their existing health and safety performance and the effectiveness of their safety procedures.

A comprehensive service is available which includes the production or revision of Safety Policies, manuals and other required documentation.

FIRE SAFETY

The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 was introduced in 2006 and requires employers and/or building owners to undertake an assessment of the fire risk and to appoint a Responsible Person to implement this. Due to the specialist nature of fire risks, in-house expertise is seldom available and we offer a comprehensive assessment service, including a written report where required.

CONSTRUCTION SAFETY

The introduction of the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations (and the revision effective from 1 April 2007) demands that Clients (including trusts) take a much more proactive attitude in promoting Health and Safety during most construction work. In particular, Clients are required to appoint a Co-ordinator (formerly the Planning Supervisor) and a Principal Contractor (not to be confused with the ‘main works contractor’) to ensure that health and safety matters are properly managed and co-ordinated at all stages of the project, including the requirement to develop and implement a Health and Safety Plan before work starts and to provide a Health and Safety File on completion of the work. We can undertake these roles on behalf of you or your clients, ensuring that they are given competent and proper advice. A breach of Health and Safety Legislation can result in the imposition of substantial fines and periods of imprisonment.
